price, but our broker twisted their arm. He
told the shipyard that they had no choice: the
shipowner had picked Deltamarin to design
the ship, and the Chinese shipyard had to
sign a contract with Deltamarin. Of course,
the shipyard tried to sign as small a contract
as possible, but we told them no – it’s all or
nothing. We got the deal, but it took a lot of
hard work! The help we got from our broker
was instrumental in this.”
Deltamarin also designed new self-unloader

Cadiou credits Markku Kanerva and the
trust he put in him for the success of the
venture. “I think it’s important to mention
that the reason we succeeded, both BRS and
Deltamarin, is because of the confidence we
had in ourselves respectively. When you
develop a new product, a product that is in
the line of fire by many, you have opposition
from the outside but also unfortunately, as in
every company, opposition from the inside.
It’s sometimes very difficult to resist, and I’m
very grateful to my friend Markku Kanerva
for all the confidence he placed in me and
BRS. I placed the same confidence in him and
Deltamarin at the time.”
