92
ferries, and that has traditionally been a
strong area of competence for Deltamarin.”
Heinimaa names the NorthLink vessels
that serve the Scottish isles as an example of
RMC’s and Deltamarin’s success stories. “That
was a special project that I remember very
well. It took place at the start of the 2000s. We
entered the competition because Deltamarin
was acting as the customer’s representative.
We won the competition for two vessels, but
there was another shipyard competing for
the third one. That shipyard then withdrew
from the competition, and they ordered the
third vessel from us. The vessel was designed
to operate in narrow harbour conditions.
The side casings used in this project were a
novelty at the time. I believe the concept came
from Deltamarin. They were doing a new type
of passenger car ferry design for this project.
It was an interesting story in the history of
shipbuilding.”
RMC is currently building the LNG-fuelled
shuttle ferry MyStar for Tallink and the
LNG-fuelled car passenger ferry Aurora
Botnia for Kvarken Link. Deltamarin will
provide design services for both projects.
Heinimaa believes that RMC has found a
long-term strategic partner in Deltamarin and
that this type of networking is crucial for the
Finnish shipbuilding industry to be able to
compete internationally.
“This is in both RMC’s and Deltamarin’s
interest. Deltamarin’s profile has changed over
the years, but it has been a long-term partner
for us, and we have all the prerequisites for
our cooperation and development to continue.
Because our partnership is so strong, we
hope that Deltamarin will lead its own design
network. That way it can stay ahead of the
game. Having the best design network at
its disposal creates added value for all the
participants in the network,” concludes
Heinimaa.
SUCCESSFUL CLIENT STORIES
Our cooperation with
Deltamarin has been
successful because it has
taken place over such a
long period of time.
