Scope of Work for the Shipowner
Front-end engineering design (FEED) for the life extension and upgrade of FPSO Petrojarl I to enable its operation on the Bream field in the North Sea Norwegian sector, operated by BG Norge. The scope of work for Teekay Petrojal included:
- Feasibility studies addressing key issues
- Hull strength and fatigue assessment
- Hull upgrade design
- Design of marine and utility systems
- Replacement of power plant gas turbines with tri-fuel diesel generators
- Offloading system design and installation
- HVAC system upgrade design
- Design for free-fall lifeboat installation
- Preliminary cost estimation for modifications
Project Features
- Given the vessel's age (built in 1986), substantial repairs and life extension work were expected
- The diesel generators were designed to operate directly using the produced crude oil
- The project was part of Teekay’s efforts to extend the vessel’s operational lifespan, initially designed for 10 fields in 29 years, enabling it to be redeployed for new ventures like the Bream field
- The FPSO underwent the modifications in 2015, with expected first oil from the upgraded unit slated for mid-2016
