2017 has been positively busy for all of us working in the Deltamarin Group companies. At the year-end our new Managing Director would like to share some of his thoughts about what the year brought.
Deltamarin has signed contracts with the Chinese Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd for engineering and construction support services for the Viking Line LNG-fuelled ro-pax vessel newbuilding. The contracts cover basic and detail design as well as comprehensive project management support and supervision services to the shipyard during vessel construction.
Project Forward, the joint development project based on Deltamarin’s B.Delta design, is in discussions with oil major Shell about potential LNG supply options and requirements for globally-trading bulk carriers, tankers and container vessels.
The construction of the Deltamarin-designed bulk carriers for the Finnish ship owner ESL Shipping has been assigned to Sinotrans & CSC main yard, Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing, China. The two extremely energy efficient B.Delta26LNG vessels will be the first LNG-fuelled large bulk carriers in the world.
Project Forward, a joint development project to equip the dry bulk carriers of the future with LNG propulsion, has selected Wärtsilä to join the project with its 31DF dual-fuel engine. The project is led by Athens-based bulk carrier owner Arista Shipping, and other participants are Deltamarin, ABS and GTT.
Deltamarin Ltd has signed a contract to design the world’s first LNG handysize bulk carriers, which will point the way towards greener shipping of commodities. The two B.Delta26LNG vessels will be constructed for the Finnish shipowner ESL Shipping Ltd by the Chinese Qingshan Shipyard.
Deltamarin, Arista Shipping, ABS and Gastransport et Technigaz (GTT) launch a joint development project, Project Forward, in applying LNG as fuel to dry bulk carriers of the future. The concept design will be based on the highly-optimised Deltamarin B.Delta design suitable for ships between 82,000 and 210,000dwt.
Deltamarin Ltd and Brevik Technology AS, a VARD affiliate, have joined forces by developing a novel multigas carrier design, which is expected to change the nature of the gas carrying industry. The concept combines in unprecedented way the successful design of Deltamarin’s B.Delta and the new-generation patented cylindrical gas tanks by Brevik Technology.
Deltamarin has been awarded a contract by Arctech Helsinki Shipyard Inc. for the entire machinery and technical spaces outfitting production design of the very first LNG-powered icebreaker. The unique vessel is to be built for the Finnish Transport Agency, and aims to reduce emissions and fuel costs by using both diesel and LNG as fuel.
