A year of changes and development

Deltamarin Christmas greeting 2018

2017 has been positively busy for all of us working in the Deltamarin Group companies. For me, this is the end of my first year as the new Managing Director of the company and I would like to share some of my thoughts about what the year brought.

People: People are, and always will be, the most valuable asset of our company. There have been many personnel changes during the year in all Deltamarin Group companies. After all these changes, I feel confident that we now have the right persons in the right positions and we all are focusing on a common future as one strong team. Close cooperation between the Group companies will be our focus for next year, allowing us to provide even better services for our customers globally.

Projects: The single biggest project for us has been the project Global, a cruise vessel for Star Cruises to be built at MV Werften in Germany. The basic design phase of the vessel has kept all our disciplines busy. We have also gained several new orders in the course of the year, such as the Viking Line cruise ferry, Eimskip cargo vessel and a navy vessel project, to mention but a few. The scope of work for each project varies, covering concept development, engineering and construction management services.

Product highlights: Deltamarin’s energy-efficient cargo ship family reached yet another milestone as Icelandic Eimskip Ltd and Greenland-based Royal Arctic Line A/S ordered the first three container vessels based on Deltamarin’s design. The latest family member in Deltamarin’s product portfolio is the multipurpose vessel called DeltaBreaker, developed by Deltamarin Poland and focusing mainly on North European inland waterways. We at Deltamarin are also proud to have had our B.Delta43 bulk carrier design honoured during the Nor-Shipping exhibition, as ‘Venture Joy’ a vessel based on this design and built for Hamburg Bulk Carriers (HBC) won the Energy Efficiency Award of the year.

In addition to the above 3Ps, it is worth mentioning that there have been some positive signs of offshore market recovery. Currently we are working with two offshore sector projects, and looking forward to seeing signs that are more positive during the upcoming year.

In 2017, we have been running several interesting technology development projects. To help ship owners and operators to improve the energy efficiency of ships, Deltamarin has been developing new energy flow modelling, simulation and analysis tools. LNG as fuel has been one of the focus areas as well. And last but not least, we have been developing novel tools to serve our customers better in the early phase of concept development. We look forward to turning these new development results into benefits for our partners and customers.

On behalf of the entire Deltamarin team, I would like to wish you all a relaxing Holiday Season and a Happy New Year.
